Egan Houseboat Rentals has been a family run business for over 50 years, in 2022, the Kent Family purchased the business and is still family run today. From the moment you arrive you will experience friendly staff that make you feel very welcome. Operating from their own marina, Egan Houseboat Rentals has the largest fleet of houseboats for the local waters. Egan Houseboat Rentals is located 20 min south of Bobcaygeon, the houseboating capital of Ontario at the bottom of Pigeon Lake a short drive from Toronto.
You will be able to enjoy the relaxing waters and scenery while you cruise through the Kawarthas and Trent-Severn Waterway. The Kawartha Lakes consists of over 250 lakes and winding rivers that provide year-long recreational activities. Houseboating in the Kawarthas provides the opportunity to discover at your own pace secluded bays and relaxation.

Experience Required
Previous experience is not required. You will be provided a comprehensive audio visual training program, available on-line, that fully explains everything you need to know. Minimum age of 21 with a valid Driver’s License to rent a houseboat
Licensing
You do not require a boating license (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) to rent a houseboat. Prior to departure you will be provided with training to meet Transport Canada requirements for competence. Be sure to ask any questions if you are not sure. Once completed your onboard orientation training form serves as a temporary license that is good for your trip. You will need to keep this document readily available if requested by officials.

Electrical Outlets
As with many houseboats there are minimal electrical outlets available for small appliances. If you need to charge any devices a 12v charging device is available at the front dash. You will need to bring your own inverters. Once the shore power is connected you will have access to electricity.

Linens are not provided; however, they are available for rent. Linen rental for $50 + tax per bed (2 people per bed includes 2 sheets, 1 comforter, 2 pillows, 2 pillow cases, 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 2 face cloths) (1 person per bed includes 2 sheets, 1 comforter, 1 pillow, 1 pillow case, 1 bath towel, 1 hand towel, 1 face cloth)
Pets
Pets are allowed (max 2), for a $75 cleaning fee.
Additional Costs
There are a number of additional costs that you should budget for during your vacation and will depend on the duration of your trip and the distance traveled. Each operator has different policies and should be discussed directly with them. Some costs will or may include:

Local Weather
May to October weather for Omemee, Ontario, in half-month steps (days 1–15 and 16 through the end of the month). Air, precipitation, and wet days use nearby Peterborough Airport observations, about 18 km away (climate ID 6166415).
- Each tile is one half-month from May through October. Early is days 1–15. Late is day 16 through the end of the month. Every tile shows a value.

A wet day has at least 0.2 mm, among precipitation observations in the years included for that half-month. Days flagged missing are left out.
- Temperature and precipitation leave out late May 2022 (6 of 16 days) and early July 2022 (9 of 15 days). Missing days in an included half-month are not filled in. The largest high and low temperature gap in an included half-month is 2 days, in early July 2025, late August 2022, and late August 2023. The largest precipitation gap in an included half-month is 3 days, in early October 2021.
- Precipitation is liquid equivalent (rain plus the water in any snow), in millimetres per half-month.
- Sunshine is not biweekly. Peterborough Airport does not publish bright sunshine. Each month’s existing normal is repeated on both of that month’s tiles. Those hours are 1981–2010 normals from Lindsay Frost (climate ID 6164433), the nearest Kawartha station with a bright-sunshine record, not a 2021–2025 average.
